In 2015, The ROS1ders consisted of a very small group of patients trying to figure out how to improve outcomes for patients with our rare biomarker. We turned to Bonnie Addario for help and she enthusiastically embraced us. With Bonnie’s help (and the help of her organizations ALCF and ALCMI), we launched several major initiatives that transformed the landscape for The ROS1ders.
From our earliest days, Bonnie immediately understood the power and importance of The ROS1ders. She didn’t just pay lip service to the idea of centering the patient voice, she walked the walk. It was tricky sometimes, figuring out how to change paradigms, but Bonnie’s north star of always honoring the patient voice never wavered.
Today, The ROS1ders has matured into its own independent organization, supporting thousands of ROS1+ patients worldwide and funding hundreds of thousands of dollars of research into our disease. Bonnie Addario made much of that possible and her imprint will always be woven into the fabric of our organization.
Bonnie was a trailblazer motivated by such heart that she didn’t just launch her own ground-breaking organizations, but sent ripples out, inspiring so many others, like ours. She revolutionized lung cancer patient advocacy for the better, and we are forever grateful.
The ROS1ders send our heartfelt condolences to Tony, Danielle, Andrea and the whole family. May Bonnie’s memory be for a blessing.
